Getting started
Before you start your driving lessons you need to be 17 years old and have your own provisional licence. A provisional licence application form (D1 and D750) can be obtained from the post office or the DVLA direct at a cost of £38.
Although you need to be 17 years of age before you can start your driving lessons you can apply up to 3 months before your birthday so that your ready to go when the big day arrives.
Driving tuition
The DSA states that, “those who pass their driving test have had on average about 45 hours of professional training, combined with 22 hours of private practice. Candidates who combine professional and private practice are also more successful on test”. Private practice can therefore be an advantage if it is combined with sufficient professional training.
In order to obtain your full driving licence you will need to undertake two tests, first a theory & hazard perception test and once that has been successfully completed a practical driving test.
Meet your instructor
When you meet your instructor for the first time, they will assess what level training you will need in order to achieve test standard.
The time you spent with your instructor is very important, therefore it is vital that you are relaxed and comfortable, your instructor will put every effort into making sure your lessons are fun and enjoyable. At the start of each lesson the instructor will set out your lesson objectives and brief you on new skills or improving a current skill.
The first lesson
Here at blue driving academy, we believe that all your driving lessons should be on a one-to-one basis only. That’s why we guarantee all your training will be one-to-one tuition, with no back seat passengers, unlike some other driving schools and all lessons really do last for a full hour.
On going lessons
Progress through the DSA syllabus putting into practice what has been instructed. New skills will be taught and demonstrated initially with help from your instructor and as your skills improve you will begin to practice without assistance. “practice is the key”
